» Langtang via Helambu

This trek is across two régions. First you’ll walk in the national park of Langtang as far as Kyangine-Ghompa (3800 m). Then you’ll make for the holy lakes of Gosainkund, and pass into the Helambu. This trek offers a wide variety of beautiful scenery from the cultivated terraces to the impressive mountains (Langtang Lerung 7250m) and allows you to abserve a great variety of plants and flowers… You’ll discover the typical villages inhabited by several ethnic groups and their lifestyle, don’t miss the trip to the sacred lakes of Hinduism

Trekking itinerary 

 Day 01 : Kathmandu arrival (1300m)

Welcome to Kathmandu, the capital. You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel, here you will be formally introduced to your Guide and the activities to be enjoyed over the next few days.  We will also ask for your passport photographs and any other details required for your trek permits, at this stage.

Day 02 : Kathmandu sightseeing.
After breakfast, you start an interesting tour around Kathmandu. We will arrange a guide of your chosen language to give you a tour and introduction to our rich culture amongst our ancient and fascinating history and religion. In our sightseeing tour you go to Monkey temple Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath and Kathmandu Durbar square.

Durbar Square: -This complex of palaces, courtyards and temples, built between the 12th and 18th centuries, used to be the seat of the ancient Malla kings of Kathmandu. There is an intriguing 17th century stone inscription set into the wall of the palace with writings in 15 languages. The Durbar square, protected as an UNESCO world Heritage site, is the social, religious and urban focal point of the city. There are also museums inside the palace building. There is an entrance fee of Rs.250 for foreign visitors. Your ticket to the Square entitles you to visit all the museums.

Swayambhunath, situated on a hillock 6.5 kilometres west of Kathmandu, this 2000 years old Stupa is the world’s most glorious Buddhist shrine and is surrounded by several small pagodas. The main temple is capped by a pinnacle of copper gilt and is painted on the four sides with all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha.

Pashupatinath, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is the holiest and most famous Nepalese temple. Situated 5 kilometres northeast of Kathmandu on the bank of the sacred Bagmati River, it is an impressive pagoda style structure with gilt roof and richly carved silver doors. It has bathing and cremation ghats, which are of absorbing interest to the tourist, particularly in the mornings and on festival days.

Day 03 : Kathmandu –Dhunche (1966m)
Travelling through Trishuli (Nuwakot) today the journey length will depend on the season and the number of landslides caused by heavy rains.  On a good day it will take you 7 to 8 hours.  The views on the way are very pretty

Day 04 : Dhunche to Syabru Besi(2581m)
Trek from Dhunche to Syabru Gaon (2581m.) which takes about five and half hours. Trek to Syabru Gaon (6950ft, 2120m). The trek today is very leisurely through forests and terraced hill slopes. As you enter Syabru, you descend to the ridgeline that separates the Langtang Khola from the Trisuli River. Syabru is a beautiful village stretched out along the ridgeline. You will continue through the village to your campsite about fifteen minutes beyond on the slopes below the village. The sunset is spectacular, brilliantly backlighting the houses perched on the ridgeline above. From here you can enjoy spectacular view of Lantang Lirung (7245m.), Tibetan Himal ranges and so on.

Day 05 : Syabru Besi to Lama Hotel(2470m)

Trek from Syabru Gaon to Lama Hotel (2470m.) and it takes about five hours. The trail descends along the ridge on Syabru’s main street and then drop to the Ghopche Khola (2050 m.) and again descends to the Landslide (1810m.). Afterwards, you trek ascends gently to Rimche (2400m.) through Bamboo (1960m.) and at the end your trail is level to the Lama Hotel. En route you could see red pandas, monkey and bear if you are lucky. There are few lodges and shops which provides the trekker supplies

Day 06 : Lama Hotel To Langtang Village (3430m)
Your gentle climb to begin with soon steepens high above the river to Ghora Tabela. (2970m).  You will soon find yourself in open country with scattered Tamang settlements.  You will have climbed nearly 100m today relatively steadily.  The village here is home to some yak herds and cheese factories, worth exploring if you have the energy.

Day 07 : Langtang Village To Kyanjing (3870m)
You will climb to the ridge this morning marked with a big chorten and some Mani walls, from here you will have views of Kyanjing Gompa and the icefall from Langtang Lirung surrounded by snowy mountains.  You will be walking for around 3 hours today so time to explore the area this afternoon.

Day 08 : Rest Day
Rest day at Kyangjin Gompa and excursion in and around. This is day to rest and explore the area. You can visit the monastery and the cheese factory, walk up the moraine to see the spectacular ice faces and tumbling glaciers of Langtang Lirung or ascend Kyangjin Ri [4350m], directly behind the village, for a breath-taking panorama of the Langtang peaks.

Day 09 : Kyanjing Gompa to Lama Hotel
You will return the way you came today following the Langtang Khola river to Langtang Village and on to Ghra Tabela and down to Lama Hotel

Day 10 : Lama Hotel To Thulo Syabru Besi
The beginning of your journey today is very pretty and offers magnificent views.  You will begin descending gently before it steepens to Syabrubesi, taking about 5 hours in total.

Day 11 : Thulo Syabru to SingGompa or Chandanbari(3330m)
Trek from Thulo Syabru to Sing Gompa or Chandan Bari (3330m.) and it takes about five hours. The trail from Thulo Syabru to Foprang Danda (3200m.) follows steeply ascent path passing through Dursagang (2660m.) along with the view of Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Tibetan Mountain and oak, Hemlock, firs forests. Now the path gently ascends for some distance and then follows flat level to Sing Gompa. There is a well managed local cheese factory and a Buddhist Monastery.

Day 12 : Sing Gompa To Gosinkunda(4460m)
You start with a climb through rhododendron forests this morning, if you are here during the spring, enjoy the fabulous colours as the trees are in bloom, eventually you will emerge at the saddle of Chalang Pati (3380m), you will soon enter the Gosainkunda protected area, please do respect your surrounding environment and local cultures.  There are few places to stop for water today so be sure you have enough on you.  You will enjoy great views along the ridge of Langtang Lirung from the north and looking west you can see Ganesh Himal and Manaslu, Tibet is also visible in the distance.  Shortly the lakes will come in to view as the climb continues gently, you will then drop to the third lake, the hold Gosainkunda (4380m).  Many people come here to worship and bath in the lake during full moon festivals every August.

Day 13 : Rest Day

Day 14 : Gosinkunda to Lauribinayak Pass to Ghopte(4610m)
Today is a long one on many rough rails, it will take around 7 hours, to begin with you will follow the north side of the lake before climbing towards the pass of Laurebina La (4610m), on the way you will see more lakes as you go. You will find many cairns on the pass, from here you will begin your descent through some summer pastures to Phedi (3740m) and Dupi Chaur (3630m) and finally to Gopte (3440m).

Day 15 : Trek from Ghopte to Melamchi Gaon via Tharepati Pass[3490m.]
The first part of the trails slightly descends and then begins to ascend through the rhododendron forests until Thearepati and then you trek goes in descending order. Before climbing to Tharepati, a group of herders’ huts at 3579m, you cross a stream after coming through rhododendron, oak and juniper forests. From Tharepati the trail gradually descends through pine and rhododendron forest with good views down into the Helambu valley and across to Jugal Himal and Numbur in the Solu Khumbu. Melamchi Gaon is surrounded by beautiful forests, which is mainly inhabited by Sherpa people with their distinctive culture. There are situated some Buddhist monasteries.

Day 16 : Melamchi Gaon to Tarkegyang(2743m)
The beginning of your trek takes you down to the Melamchi stream before gently climbing to Tareghyang another pretty little Sherpa village with the oldest and biggest monastery.  The village is also known as Helambu after the people living here originally belonged to the Helmu caste.  You will be walking for around 6 hours today.

Day 17 : Tarkegyang to Shermanthang(2612m)
A 4 hour walk today and you will find the trail is relatively easy following flat ground and through beautiful forests.  Shermanthang is another pretty village with ancient monasteries, from the northern end of the village you will see views of Jugal Himal.

Day 18 : Shermanthang to Melamchi Bazaar(846m)
You drop 1730m today over 2 hours, passing many chortens and meadows.  Eventually you will reach Kakani, the last Sherpa village.  You are now entering the lowlands where Brahmin and Cheetri are the dominant tribes.  The trail descends from here to Melamchi Pul.

Day 19 : Melamchi Bazaar to Kathmandu
Your journey today is fir six hours long . You will be taken to your hotel on arrival in Kathmandu

Day 20 : Kathmandu free day of your own.
Enjoy a day exploring some of the quieter streets of Kathmandu, stocking up on souvenirs and presents for those back home.  This evening you have a farewell dinner, you will be picked up in good time.

Day 21 : Final Departure.
You will be met at your hotel and taken to the airport in good time to meet your flight home.

Price US $ 1323 per person for a group of 2 to 4 pax,US $ 1260 per person for a group of 5 to 8 pax,US $ 1113 per person for a group of 8 to 12 pax,US $ 1113 per person for a group of above 13 + the Group leader complementary.

Services: trek permits/TIMS, 1 guide and porters as necessary (each 3 members will be provided 1 porter, so 3:1 basis), all road transportation as said above, 3 (breakfast, lunch and dinner) meals everyday with hot drinks, lodge accommodation, etc.
