
Trek to Tamang Heritage Via Langtang+Gosainkunda+Helambu
This is a super introduction to Trekking in Nepal among some of the most beautiful scenery in the whole country, with rich Tamang culture, amazing natural scenery and awesome mountain vistas. Trekking to Tamang Heritage will is fully enjoyable trip local people.
Developed by the Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Program (TRPAP) under the UNDP fund, the Tamang Heritage Trail is a newly developed trekking destination or trekking trail which was developed to distribute equal tourism opportunities among the poor rural communities living in this region. Since its development the revenue and other income generated by the tourism activities in this region has gone into contributing directly to the local communities and supporting the local livelihood, women’s empowerment and environmental conservations.
Situated in the Langtang Region in north central Nepal, the route presents a combination of spectacular Himalayan views and the opportunity to experiencing a unique Tamang / Tibetan culture heritage.
The trek initially starts from Kathmandu from where the 132 stretch of road leads us to Syaphrubesi by private vehicle or you can go by local public vehicle. From Syaphrubesi the route pass through Goljung, Gatlang, Chilime, Tatopani, Rasuwagadi and Briddim whilst ending back again Syaphrubesi and driving back to Kathmandu.
Among others, the opportunity to stay and explore Gatlang village remains one of the most fascinating highlights of this trip. With its unusual setting, exotic costumes, Tamang cultural show, traditional handicraft, religious festivals, intriguing architect, Gatlang is sure to leave the visitors mesmerized. The view point at Goljung Danda provides the opportunity to gaze beyond Tibetan frontier with amazing mountain vistas that include the Sangen Himal, Paldor peak, Tibetan ranges, Langtang Lirung and Lauribinayek range. As we head further we also have the opportunity to relaxing in a soothing natural hot spring, known as “Tatopani”, where taking a bath even just for once is believed to cure many of the skin alignments. From here we head to Nagthali hill (3165m) followed by Thuman where we will explore age old monasteries and traditional houses adorned with rich wood carvings .
In addition the home stay opportunity at Gatlang village visitors will also have the same opportunity in Briddim village, largely influenced by the Tibetan culture the village of it is widely known as the home stay village. Travelers stay with the host family, eating traditional food and sleeping in their home. The menu usually consists of rice, Tibetan bread, syakpa (Sherpa stew), potato, Tibetan tea and Briddim wine. Visitors can also observe the local rituals and cultural practices with the host family and go on village walks to see the lifestyle and customs of the local residents. In the evening, the local people put on traditional costumes and perform dances in honor of the visitors.
Located at an elevation of 2,229 meters, this tiny Tibetan style village comprises 43 houses mostly made up of stone and slate roofs. The village is a living museum reflecting traditional Tamang culture and lifestyle. The local inhabitants are Tamangs and their culture is largely marked by Tibetan influences. Some of the major festivals celebrated in the village are Dawa Dangbo Cheju (in February), Chuwa Chhiju (November), Yarsang (early June), Dukpa Chhiju (August) and Lhosar (February). Syabru and Mane dances are performed during festive occasions. The Tamangs are mostly engaged in rearing livestock, farming and trading with Keyrong in Tibet. TAMANG HERITAGE TRAIL, LANGTANG, GOSAINKUNDA, HELAMBU TREKKING
Day 01 : Kathmandu arrival (1300m)
Welcome to Kathmandu, the capital. You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel, here you will be formally introduced to your Guide and the activities to be enjoyed over the next few days. We will also ask for your passport photographs and any other details required for your trek permits, at this stage.
Day 02 : Kathmandu sightseeing.
After breakfast, you start an interesting tour around Kathmandu. We will arrange a guide of your chosen language to give you a tour and introduction to our rich culture amongst our ancient and fascinating history and religion. In our sightseeing tour you go to Monkey temple Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath and Kathmandu Durbar square.
Durbar Square: -This complex of palaces, courtyards and temples, built between the 12th and 18th centuries, used to be the seat of the ancient Malla kings of Kathmandu. There is an intriguing 17th century stone inscription set into the wall of the palace with writings in 15 languages. The Durbar square, protected as an UNESCO world Heritage site, is the social, religious and urban focal point of the city. There are also museums inside the palace building. There is an entrance fee of Rs.250 for foreign visitors. Your ticket to the Square entitles you to visit all the museums.
Swayambhunath, situated on a hillock 6.5 kilometres west of Kathmandu, this 2000 years old Stupa is the world’s most glorious Buddhist shrine and is surrounded by several small pagodas. The main temple is capped by a pinnacle of copper gilt and is painted on the four sides with all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha.
Pashupatinath, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is the holiest and most famous Nepalese temple. Situated 5 kilometres northeast of Kathmandu on the bank of the sacred Bagmati River, it is an impressive pagoda style structure with gilt roof and richly carved silver doors. It has bathing and cremation ghats, which are of absorbing interest to the tourist, particularly in the mornings and on festival days.
Day 03: Kathmandu- syabrubensi driving by local bus or private vehicle 7/8 hours over night at lodge
Day 04: Sbrubensi- goljung: or Gatlang 6/ hours walk.Overnight at local community lodge where still available privately run hotels and homestay lodges.
Day 05: Gatlang Rest day: hike to the monastery and parpati kunda. Kunda is the lake in English.The lake is very popular for the pilgrims’ they are Hindu and Buddhist. Then back to the lodge and hike inside the village where you fell real Nepal.
Day 06: Gatlang – Tatopani : hotspring walk 6 hours.Overnight at lodge or homestay.
Day 07: Tatopani- Nagthali:Nagthali is the best view point. The panoramic view of the mountains are super be Overnight at lodge.
Day 08: Nagthali-Thuman/Timure or 5 hours walk to the timure over at lodge.
Day 09: Timure- Bridim: 5 hours walk over night at lodge.
Day 10: Bridim – Lama Hotel walk 5, 6 hours over night at lodge.
Day 11: Ghore Tabela- langtang:Today, the trail steep hill with thick forest and ends before longtang village We follow a gentle path leading to alpine meadows and ascend through the stone-built village and climb to a Chorten and past a huge mani along a gentle path along a hill. The valley let you view of Kimshun (6745m) and Tsenji (6543m) Himal.over night at lodge.
Day 12: Langtang village – Kyanjin Gompa and Langsisa KharkaAfter crossing a lateral moraine we arrive at Kyanjin Gompa (3840m). Walking time is about 2;30 hours and then continue to the rolling alluvial delta and cross a stream to arrive at a airstrip. From here Langtang Lirung can be seen clearly and Shalbachum glacier is visible. The leads you a grandstand view of the surrounding mountains such as Langsisa Kharaka (4175m approx.).Spend the afternoon relaxing here and back to the camp at khanjing. Walking time will be 6 hours from langtang.
Day 13: Kyanjing-Langtang Village:Today, we get up early in the morning and up to the langtang Ri taking 1 hrs and have a nice to mountains and back to the hotel for breakfast and Return journey to Dhunche, traveling upto Langtang village for the night.
Day 14: Langtang Village -Lama HotelWalking time is about 5 hours today before camp.
Day 15: Lama Hotel-Syabru-Shin Gompa:From Lama hotel to Syabru is about three and a half hours walk. From here we take the broad path climbing up to Dimsa village and through a rhododendron forest path to Shin Gompa (3300m).Total walking time is about 6 hours to camp.
Day 16: Syabru /Shin Gompa- lauribinayak:Today we walk all the way up through rhododendron covered forest. and need to be careful for the High altitude even from Syabru or from shin gumpa, (There is big yak factory at shin gompa.) you must take a rest at lauribinayak. From here will have nice view of langtang lirung, ganesh and syanjen himal.over night will be at camp.
Day 17: Lauribinayak- Gosainkund:Today,We weave our way along the right flank as we approach the Trisuli river. Now the mountain slope eases and the first lake appears. At the second lake we climb a little and the third lake sees us at Gosainkund (4310m). We have the balance of the day to relax in the vicinity of the lake. Total walking time is about 4 hours. Overnight at camp.
Day 18: Gosainkund-Gopte:we gentle up to rocky and slope to Suryakund and Lauri binayak La pass (4640m) after which we descend into a wide valley leading to a Kharka. We enter the steep mountainside path that does a Yo-Yo routine. After we pass several streams we steep flank and cross a branch ridge to arrive at Gopte (3430m) with its cave in 6 hours. Where the helicopter was crashed.
Day 19: Gopte- thare pati:We descend to Kharka that is surrounded by rhododendron forest. We climb through the forest to arrive at the village of Thare Pati. Climbing the ridge directly above the village gives us a marvelous view of the Jugal area. This is not full day walking.but need rest because of the pass yesterday.
Day 20: Thare pati.Kutumsang:From here we enter a forested area, again ascending and descending several times. After Bagan Ko Dhara, we descend continuously to arrive at Kutumsang (2460m).Total walking time is about 4 hours. Overnight at camp.
Day 21: Kutumsang-Chisopani:We follow cultivated fields through Ghul Bhanjyang, climbing the ridge and wind our way to the top of the ridge (2470m) to cross over to Chipling and Pati Bhanjyang. We then begin to climb a ridge route for Chiso Pani (2215m).
Day 22: Chisopani –Kathmandu:The view from the Hotel will be very good. After brealfast we climb to Borong Bhanjyang (2300m approx. then We descend past Koslo Bash and onto Mul Kharaka and stone path down to Sundari jal where the vehicle available to ktm and check in hotel.
Day 23 : Kathmandu free day of your own.
Enjoy a day exploring some of the quieter streets of Kathmandu, stocking up on souvenirs and presents for those back home. This evening you have a farewell dinner, you will be picked up in good time.
Day 24 : Final Departure.
You will be met at your hotel and taken to the airport in good time to meet your flight home.
